Ravenshoe - the perfect base to explore the Southern Atherton Tablelands

With so many incredible attractions surrounding Ravenshoe, you’ll be spoilt for choice on where to visit while you stay with us.


The following attractions are all within a 1 hour drive of the Ravenshoe Hotel (traffic conditions and weather permitting).

MILLSTREAM FALLS


Located within 4.5Km of Ravenshoe is Australia’s widest single-drop waterfall. Take the short, sealed, walking track (680m) to view the falls that are located on the edge of the UNESCO World Heritage-listed Wet Tropics Rainforest. This area was also used as a military base camp during WWII. No swimming area is available.

LITTLE MILLSTREAM FALLS


Smaller but no less worth a visit than Millstream Falls, Little Millstream Falls is just 5 minutes drive from Ravenshoe. A short 700m walk downhill will take you to a few large rocks to climb over where you can access the large pool at the bottom of the falls. It’s a great place to cool off with a swim provided there isn’t too much of a current. A lovely oasis for a picnic. You may even spot a platypus swimming too.

KOOMBALOOMBA DAM


Just 30Km from Ravenshoe is picturesque Koombaloomba Dam. Popular for watersports and fishing, the roads are suitable for cars with higher clearance although a 4WD is recommended. Surrounded by endangered wet schlerophyll forest, dry forest and upland rainforest, Koombaloomba Dam makes up part of the Wet Tropics World Heritage Area. A wonderful spot to spend a day relaxing.

INNOT HOT SPRINGS


Situated between Ravenshoe and Mount Garnet, Innot Hot Springs is just a 20 minute drive from the Ravenshoe Hotel. The springs are free to enjoy but be warned – some of the shallower pools can reach up to 75 degree Celsius (167 degrees fahrenheit)! Alternatively, you may prefer to go to the Innot Springs Caravan Park to enjoy their naturally heated pool and a bite to eat.

McKenzie Falls


A hidden gem, McKenzie Falls is found in the centre of the Tumoulin State Forest. A 4WD is required to get there but it’s worth the adventure once you do. After following the track by car, a short 100m walk will lead you to the falls where you can cool off with a swim or simply take in the views. Alternatively, you can hike the 10.5Km out and back trail through the beautiful endangered wet schlerophyll forest. You may even spot some vulnerable species such as the yellow-bellied glider or rufous owl.

TUMOULIN MARKETS


The Tumoulin Markets are run by volunteers on the fourth Sunday of every month (except December) from 8am to 12pm. The markets have a great vibe and it’s the perfect place to pick up a few souvenirs, a bite to eat and meet some locals. Just a 10 minute drive from Ravenshoe.

Archer creek markets


16Km from Ravenshoe is Archers Creek Markets. Held on the second Sunday of every month from 7am to 12pm. Pick up some fresh local produce, crafts, homemade goods and meet some locals as you browse the stalls.

Millaa millaa falls


One of the most photographed waterfalls in Australia. Millaa Millaa Falls is just a 25 minute drive from Ravenshoe. This beautiful spot surrounded by rainforest makes up part of the well-known waterfall circuit which also includes Zillie Falls and Ellinjaa Falls which are all within 10Km of Millaa Millaa Falls. A lovely spot for a picnic and a swim.

Malanda falls


Close to the main road, Malanda falls is a four metre wide terraced waterfall. With a small beach and shallow swimming area, it’s a great stop for a swim and a picnic or BBQ.

mungalli falls


Another waterfall worth a visit is Mungalli falls. It’s the only privately-owned world heritage listed waterfall in Queensland.  A short walk from the carpark along a permanent track will take you to the bottom of the falls for a great photo opportunity of the three tiered waterfall.

While you are in the area visiting Mungalli Falls, you might want to stop in at Mungalli Creek Dairy. A biodynamic farm home to happy cows producing rich, creamy milk ideal for yoghurt and cheese. Enjoy a delicious meal from the Farmhouse Café’s seasonal menu featuring their award-winning biodynamic milk, yoghurt, cheese, cream and ice cream!

Lake tinaroo


The Tinaroo Falls Dam began construction in 1953 and when completed created Lake Tinaroo. The perfect spot for swimming, waterskiing, fishing, catching red claw, bird watching, walking and more. You can walk along the jetty and see the dam spillway or kick back and relax with a picnic. A great place to visit.

LAke eacham


A clear blue lake formed in a volcanic crater in the crater lakes region of the Atherton Tablelands. No motorised craft are allowed on the lake making it ideal for swimmers and kayakers/canoeists. With easy access by steps, the lake is suitable for swimmers of all ages. There are also walking trails and picnic tables making it an ideal spot for lunch and dip to cool off.

yungaburra village


Quaint Yungaburra Village is known for its monthly markets, platypus viewing area, Curtain Fig Tree, Wildlife walking track, and it’s flower-lined main street. You may also like to time your stay with the Tablelands Folk Festival in October.

Windy hill wind farm


Just 3Km outside of Ravenshoe is Windy Hill Wind Farm. With 20 windmills producing enough power for 3500 homes, it is a sight to behold. The power station was commissioned in 2000 and is located on private land. The viewing area has parking and a great vantage point over the wind farm.

Gallo dairyland


A 40 minute drive from Ravenshoe is a must-visit site for any cheese or chocolate lover. Gallo Dairyland has an onsite café, cheese and chocolate factory where you can see the dairy delights being made and purchase some to take home. There’s even an animal nursery where you can interact with calves, pigs, turkeys, chickens and geese.

herberton historic village


Step back in time at Herberton Historic Village. Discover blacksmithing demonstrations, antique motor vehicles, a tea room, fashion through the decades, mining displays, horse drawn carriages, colonial furniture, books and newspapers from the 1880s, toys, weaponry, cameras and so much more. A fantastic day out for the whole family just 30 minutes from Ravenshoe.

Mount hypipamee & Dinner falls


20 minutes outside of Ravenshoe is the Mount Hypipamee National Park. Home to Mount Hypipamee crater lake – almost 70m wide and over 70m deep with the surface being 58m below the rim of the crater. A short 400m walk along an easy path will take you to a viewing platform providing fantastic views over the crater. Carry on to along the path to Dinner falls at the head of the Barron River where you can enjoy a swim in the cool water and maybe enjoy a picnic lunch.

MAMu tropical skywalk


38Km from Ravenshoe is the Wooroonoon National Park – home of the beautiful Mamu Tropical Skywalk. Elevated walkways, a cantilever, and an observation tower give you the opportunity to walk through World Heritage rainforest with a unique perspective from the canopy. Take a picnic and maybe spot some unique rainforest wildlife along the way.

Misty mountains walking tracks


A network of 130Km of wilderness tracks (long and short) located just 20 minutes from Ravenshoe. Certain tracks are suitable for hikers only and others are ideal for mountain bikers and hikers alike. Discover waterfalls, crystal clear waterways, and stunning vistas throughout the Misty Mountains tracks.
